Problem
Line 1 of the Mexico City Metro is both a vital urban infrastructure and a cultural artifact. Yet as a space of constant movement, it resists conventional preservation frameworks. How do we evaluate and protect a system whose significance lies not only in iconic architecture, but in its systemic, social, and temporal role within the city?
Solution
This project repositions Metro Line 1 as a layered urban system rather than a collection of isolated stations. Through archival research, urban mapping, and architectural analysis, the project argues for a nuanced understanding of infrastructural heritage: one that accounts for cultural symbolism, systemic importance, and evolving public life.
